A Thank You note from the San Juan Slam Tournament Chair
The success of the 3rd Annual San Juan Slam Tournament was only possible due to the many volunteers, our sponsors, and in-kind sponsors, and a healthy dose of “git ‘er done.” Thank you to all the tournament players for joining us, exhibiting great sportsmanship, and putting on a great show for all the spectators. We hope to see you again next year.
Jeanne Jambor, Registration Director
Jeanne spent a ton of time setting up brackets that would be successful in the tournament. It seems so easy on the surface, but countless hours and collaboration are spent making this successful. She contracted with Gigi Guerra to keep play moving as quickly as possible.
Dreamweaver Spielman, Media Director
DW is the reason you see articles in the local paper, hear ads on local radio, as well as advertising to other pickleball clubs in several states and all of our social media posts. She also takes our official photos all weekend and will publish the Dogs of the San Juan Slam, our most viewed page after last year’s tournament. People were seeking her out to get their picture taken with their dogs so they would be featured in this year’s edition.
Robin Camfield, Graphics Designer Director
Robin did an insane amount of creating, printing, coordinating, every single graphic that was on display for this tournament. T-shirts, posters, banners, flyers, advertisements, thank you cards, she did it all. Her designs will live on for years and be displayed in 8 different states on the T-shirts she created, as well as on our Facebook page, Instagram page, and the RPC website.
Jeanine Shultz, Silent Auction Director
Jeanine did tons of work to make the Silent Auction a huge success this year, surpassing last years earnings. From soliciting donations, organizing donations brought by other RPC members, creating information and bid cards to manning the booth, she was instrumental in making it a success.
Clark Gilbert, Infrastructure and Supplies Director, RPC President, and key Ridgway liaison
Clark did a great job of tracking the extensive amount of equipment and supplies needed to run the SJS. His interface with the town was crucial for a successful tournament.
Kim Hughes, Sponsorship Director
Kim was able to capitalize on the relationships she has built with our amazing sponsors, and was able to meet and exceed the rather lofty goals she set from the beginning of the 2025 SJS planning.
Ralph Stellmacher, Budget Director
Ralph kept us on track with budgeting, played a great tournament and helped out from the very beginning of setup to the very end of teardown.
Mandy Baril, Volunteer Coordinator
Beware the lady with the clipboard, she’s coming to get you to volunteer. Mandy did a great job setting up times and people to fulfill the many roles it takes to run a successful event of this size. When she asked, you all answered the call, and you are all appreciated.
Now, if you have ever managed an event of any size, you know that nothing happens without your ‘Worker Bee’ Volunteers. SJS is no exception—a huge grateful thank you to these tireless working folks who were there all three days from 6:30 a.m. to the end of each very long day, rain or shine.
Rustin Weaver - Rustin volunteered his PA system that was critical in announcing matches as well as advertising for our sponsors and drawing attention to the Silent Auction and other key items of interest throughout the weekend.
Lenon Farkash, Tournament Play Consultant - Lenon’s collaboration with Mark, JJ, and Pickleballbrackets Consultant, Gigi Guerra, helped immensely in setting up the initial brackets and making adjustments after an unfortunate rain delay so that bracket was able to compete and not just get scrubbed as in most tournaments.
Referees
We are fortunate to have USA Pickleball certified referees that are willing to volunteer in our tournament. Head Referee Kent Davenport, his wife Teresa, Maxine Behrman, Lorrie Martin, and Eileen Egloff gave our tournament a very professional boost. Thank you all so much.
RPC Volunteers
There were so many volunteers, I hesitate to thank them by name in case I forget someone. But, here goes. Your willingness to step up when needed, sign up for time slots, and fill in with many last-minute tasks is SO APPRECIATED:
Kyle Hughes, Wandi Ncube, Mary Norlander, Dave Jones, RJ Haggerty, JoAnne Brooks, Donna Sherwood, Karen Kappius, Kelly Reece, Marta Kimbrell, Kevin Dawson, CL and Anna Morris, Terry Schuyler, Dave and Ellie Kehmeier, Steve Pearson, Rebecca and Keith Lineberry, Annette Hunter, John Martersteck, Kathy Fitch, Rita Meuret, Barb Barwell, Vangela Cosby, John Karnowski, Althea Turner, Laura McDonald, Julie Herrmann, Lenon Farkash, Alissa Crandall, Robbie Stellmacher, Linda Stearns, and Lynn Molitor. Whew, that is an exhaustive list, and shows how large of an undertaking this tournament can be.
Sponsors
We could not do this tournament without your support. I ask that all who see this to seek out and do business with these amazing businesses and foundations.
To our presenting sponsor: Citizens State Bank, we are so grateful that you saw the San Juan Slam as a positive opportunity for you and your community.
